What is a sea-view room?
A sea-view room is accommodation marketed as having a view of the sea from the room, balcony or terrace. The strength and angle of that view can vary considerably between hotels and even between rooms within the same category.
A direct or full sea view will usually place the sea prominently in front of the room. A side sea view may require looking across or at an angle, while a partial sea view can include buildings, landscaping or other structures within the outlook.
What should you check?
The exact view description
Look for the room category itself rather than relying on general hotel photography. Sea view, side sea view and partial sea view should not be treated as interchangeable.
Where the view is from
Check whether the advertised view is visible from inside the room, from the balcony or terrace, or only from a particular position outside.
Obstructions
Trees, neighbouring buildings, resort structures and lower floors can change the outlook. Where the view is important, room-level information and photographs are more useful than the hotel's general location.
Orientation and light
A beautiful sea view does not automatically mean the balcony receives the sun when you want it. The direction the room faces can affect morning or evening light and how the outdoor space feels.
The room actually included
A beachfront hotel may have many room categories with no sea view at all. Make sure the package being offered includes the specific sea-view category you want for your dates.
When should it be a MUST?
If waking up to the sea is one of the reasons you are choosing the hotel, make a genuine sea view a MUST. If you would enjoy it but would accept a better room, private pool or balcony at the right hotel, it may be better as a PREFER.
RoomSorted's intended matching approach is to distinguish room-level view descriptions rather than assuming that every room in a seafront hotel provides the same outlook.
